Damon has a very unique personality; he is like marmite- you will either love him or hate him. He has a very sharp tongue and witty sense of humor. He can sometimes take a joke too far. Damon is not afraid to say what he thinks.He does not always think before he acts. He is not known for being very forgiving, and once you are on his blacklist, you will usually stay there.
He prides himself on not having any humanity, and as a vampire, has managed to keep himself completely closed off from the guilt or pain he has suffered. Recently, he’s let those feelings back in, making him start to realise all the hurt he had caused everyone. Damon is not known for being shy, and is well known for speaking his mind. He does like to flirt, and enjoys the company of many of the women of Mystic Falls. However, he is obsessed with Katherine and thinks he is falling in love with Elena, and they are the only two women who are anywhere near his heart. He has a hatred for his brother, and has made it his life goal to make Stefan’s eternity a misery. Many say that Damon is pretty much the complete oppisite of Stefan.

HISTORY,Damon Salvatore was born into one of the founding families of Mystic Falls during the 1800’s. His mother died shortly after the birth of Stefan, Damon’s younger brother. This hit Damon hard, as he was very close to his mother. His father struck up a close bond with Stefan, and always showed preference of him over Damon. This did not bother Damon however, who was a free spirit and lived his life as he wanted to live it. He was very close to his brother when they were growing up, never leaving his side. They were the best of friends, and they spent all of their time together. When Damon was eighteen, he signed up to be a part of the Confederate States Army. Damon left his hometown to join in with the war, spending a few years in the army before deciding to return home. He discharged himself from the army and went back to Mystic Falls. Damon had missed his brother, finding him first when he had arrived back at the mansion.
Stefan had been entertaining a new guest, a girl by the name of Katherine Peirce. It was a case of love at first sight for Damon, who automatically began to compete for her affections against his own brother. In the months that followed, Damon’s relationship with his brother slowly deteriorated. Damon fell deeply in love with Katherine, at the same time as his brother did. When Katherine revealed herself to Damon, he didn’t need to be Compelled to keep the secret. Damon willingly allowed her to take blood from him, and took blood from her in return. He believed that she wanted to turn only him, and that he could then spend the rest of eternity with her. He had not been bargaining on Stefan also taking blood from her, or the fact that Katherine had decided she wanted both of the Salvatore brothers. Damon was oblivious to this, thinking that she only wanted him and him alone.
Mystic Falls began to become overrun with vampires, and some of the local townsfolk worked out that many of the new residents weren’t quite who they said they were. Damon’s father took the lead in rooting out all of the vampires and destroying them. Damon heard of his father’s plan, and discussed it with Stefan in regards of Katherine. They both wanted to keep her safe, but Stefan had said that their father would listen if he spoke to him about Katherine. Damon disagreed, knowing that his father would kill Katherine. His brother went behind his back, giving his father hints that Katherine was a vampire. It led to the brother’s food being spiked with Vervain, and Katherine eventually getting caught through drinking Stefan’s blood. She was taken to Fell’s Church along with the other vampires that had been captured.
Damon and Stefan tried to rescue her, distracting the guards and breaking her out of one of the carts that held the vampires. Their father shot them both, leaving them to die as they took Katherine away. Damon died first, and was quickly followed by his brother, Stefan. When he awoke, he was dazed and confused, but remembered that he needed to help Katherine. Damon had run to Fell’s Church, just in time to watch it burn to the ground. Emily Bennet, a witch and friend of Katherine, came to him and told him to follow her. He went out to the Mystic Falls Quarry, where his brother was still unconscious. Damon sat at the edge of the lake, looking out at the waterfall until the dawn broke. His brother awoke, and talked to him about becoming a vampire. Damon refused, saying he wanted to die as it had all been only for her.
Stefan wandered off, leaving Damon to his own thoughts and heartbreak. He returned later that night, bringing a young girl from the town to him. Stefan explained what had happened with his father, and then forced Damon to drink by showing him the flowing blood of the young girl. After he completed the transition, Damon found that he could turn off the pain and guilt. He went to Stefan, telling him that he hated him and that he promised to make the rest of eternity a misery for him. Before leaving, Emily told him about the spell she had placed upon the tomb, and that Katherine was sealed inside. Damon took this information in, before leaving Mystic Falls to start his new challenge - freeing Katherine. It was an obsession that would last over one hundred and forty years, and become the only thing Damon ever cared about. Damon never got over Katherine, having her remain tattooed to his heart throughout the long years that followed.
He kept his promise to his brother, turning up every now and then to make his life hell. He also worked tirelessly to find a necklace that could be used to free Katherine. He had to wait for the right moment however, as it would take a lot of magic to reopen the tomb. During September 2000, Damon came across a young witch who was being attacked by a rapist. He saved her, going against what he would normally do, and then took her to Bree’s bar to be brought up by Bree. Trinity and Damon would become good friends in the years that followed, and when he killed Bree, Trinity took over Bree’s bar. It had been fifteen years since Damon had last seen his brother, so he decided to track him down and torment him some more. Stefan had returned to Mystic Falls, and was falling in love with a girl called Elena Gilbert. Damon just had to intervene, meeting Elena and finding out that she was a doppelganger of Katherine. He was instantly interested, and began to keep a closer eye on Elena.
Their relationship started off shakily, with Elena hating everything about Damon. However, the two began to bond after Damon took her to Bree’s Bar, away from Stefan and Mystic Falls. When the tomb was opened, and Damon found out that Katherine wasn’t there, Elena comforted him. Damon found out that Katherine didn’t care for him from Annabelle, who said that she had known all along where he was. Elena was the only one to show him sympathy, but got upset when she found out that Damon had ‘killed’ her mother. When Isobel returned, showing that she wasn’t dead, but actually a vampire, Elena had to go and meet her. She was after the device, and told Elena that Damon would give it to her if she asked. He did, thinking that Bonnie had deactivated the magic on it. When the device was handed over, Isobel told Elena that Damon was in love with her. This is something that Damon had denied to his brother, telling him they were just good friends.

Damon let silence prevail while he finished making himself that drink and took a few swallows of it. He relished the taste of the alcohol washing down his throat. When Elena spoke that she wasn't there to play games, Damon rolled his eyes. Playing games was Damons main objective in life. Didn't she know this? Maybe she forgot. He turned his head in her direction and studied Elena. " Aw, come on Elena. Want a drink? Can have another great night like we did last night. I won't tell, it'll be our little secret."
Damon just loved secrets. Especially the ones where they were against the people he didn't like or if it was against Stefan. His personal grudge with his brother, would never end, it seemed. After taking one more sip from the tumbler, he headed over to her and shrugged as he sat down.
" Stefans not here. Well, not exactly here... " Not in the sense of being the Stefan she thought of him to be. The human wanna be vampire who never could drink human blood. " Let's talk.. I got a scenario to run past you Elena."
There came another pause of breath and then he spoke to her as he turned to face her. " Let's say, Stefan did something...he shouldn't have. Nothing bad..well, as far as I see it...but lets say it could be seen as bad... If he started drinking human blood... Nothing wrong with that, would there be?" Damon found this amusing as hell and let his smirk clearly be seen.
Now that he was finished toying with the reality of the situation to Elena, he brought up that glass of rum and took a hearty swallow of it. It burned as he swallowed it and he reveled in the fact it brought warmth as it slid down his throat. Another swallowed followed and then Damon leaned forward and set the empty glass to the countertop. His eyes flutter back towards Elena and he took her in, waiting for a response that would hopefully soon come from her.
