The moon was high in the sky. It was only a waning sliver of the moon, but still, it's not like Kira needed that much light to see by. She looked around, bored with the surroundings. Each of the places she visited seemed to have the same generic layout.
She walked across a grassy field, ignoring the sidewalks that winded around the place. It was then than she spotted a small swing set just a little ways off the path. That was one of the few good things about traveling at night, it wasn't crowded here. She moved swiftly, and withing in second found herself standing in front of the swing. She lowered herself down and sat carefully.
Her fingers traced the cold of the chain that supported the swing, rusted in some places from age and use. She looked down at her feet as she pushed herself forward and back very slowly. Not dealing with crowds was nice, having peace and quiet. But sometimes... sometimes the solitude was louder. Sometimes the silence screamed so loud in Kira's ears it hurt. She closed her eyes and wished for some company.

Damon was looking for a late night snack. Preferably one which walked on two legs. Yep, that's right- human. And not the blood bag variety. In fact, he would prefer it if it was a young, pretty woman. Yeah, he knew it was cliche- tall, dark and handsome vamp feeds on young beautiful woman- but he couldn't resist.
Especially since Katherine had stolen his favorite sex toy and blood donor. Damon had lost most of his attraction to her when Katherine had made her a vampire, making her immune to his mind compulsion. That was unfortunate- Caroline talked so much that if he couldn't compel her to shut her mouth...well, it was either leave or kill her.
Damon thought that Lady Luck had finally smiled down on him when he saw another pretty blonde thing walking down the dark streets. He sped towards her...then stopped in front of her.
"Goddammit, you're a vampire, too!" Damon let out a burst of hysterical laughter. "If many more of our kind move here...well the town will run out of body bags." Well, if it became a problem he would tell some vampires to move out. Like this one. And if they didn't...well, he could kill them. "Are you looking for dinner as well? You may want to try one of the next towns over...lot less vampire hunters there." There was a hint of hostility in Damon's voice as he spoke.

Kira looked up, and far off a figure was headed her way. She perked up, maybe her luck was changing. Maybe it was-- her thoughts paused. It was no human. Quickly, he was there right in front of her. He cursed in extreme annoyance. Like she thought he had been human from afar, he must have thought the same of her.
Her brows furrowed in chagrin. Her tone was biting, cool, "Well aren't you just the gentlemanly type..." Her sarcasm thick. She stood off the swing fast, standing before him. "I didn't realize you had a problem with me, actually, I'm pretty sure we've never met." She said. Kira ran her long, strong fingers through her silky, waved hair. "I'm not leaving town quite yet, but as you seemed annoyed by my presance, perhaps I will just let you continue on your way." She snapped.
She was frustrated that he appeared frustrated and was taking it out on her. "So, please, continue with your cranky, brooding attitude." She said, rolling her eyes. He was very handsome. Very, very handsome, but she tried to ignore that fact... even though it was kind of hard to... she turned her back on him, sad that the first person she'd talked to in Mystic Falls took on that slightly hostile tone.

Damon resisted the urge to snarl. It would do no good to let her know she had gotten to him. He supposed he should have been prepared for such a reaction. You couldn't expect to simply frighten every newly-turned vampire out of town, after all. Unfortunately.
His intention had not been to be polite. He didn't care about whether people liked him. Damon cared about getting what he wanted- and right now what he really wanted was to not have to deal with a bunch of new vampires in his town. The town council didn't suspect he or his brother were vampires, and he would very much to keep it that way.
Damon forced one of his patented smirks. "I see someone's a little feisty," he observed. It reminded him of Elena- never backing down even when she should. God, how he loved that about her. He knew that some part of her feared him and his power, but she would never show that.
"I'm Damon Salvatore," he said, taking the swing next to her just to irritate her. "And I don't get dark and broody...that's my brother's thing."
"Wasn't joking about those vampire hunters, though," he said casually. "Wonder how they got that vervaine," he said ironically, doing his best to look as if he was genuinely stumped. "How'd they even learn about it?" He shot a glance at Kira, as if daring him to ask what vervaine was and why it was important. He wondered how old she really was- if she was new to the vampire lifestyle, he would love to make fun of her for her ignorance of vervaine. That was something every vampire should be familiar with.

Kira eyed him cautiously. This was not the night she thought she'd be having. She could see that he was used to being some big shot, and she took pride in defending herself. If she died, well, oh well. She lived a long life, and she was bored most of the time anyways, this was a little more than the nothing she thought would happen tonight.
This vampire was careless, Kira read that much in his voice, his actions, the way he held himself. Kira sighed. She looked at the moon, high in the night sky. Each star a twinkling light, with the look of a diamond. Kira was surprised to hear that he'd come across many vampires here, this was her first night in Mystic Falls, and this guy, Damon? Was the first she'd come across.
"Feisty." She laughed, her tone still slight cool. She wasn't ready to warm up to Damon just yet. "That's one word to describe it, I suppose." She said, eying him. He was devastatingly good looking and she had to force herself to look away. He probably noticed that she;d stared at his features just a moment too long.
"Salvatore..." She repeated. The Salvatore brothers? That rang such a bell, she must have heard of them some where, during one of her travels. "Damon, I'd say it's nice to meet you, but I'm not so sure yet." She said, flashing her beautiful smile. "I'm Kira." She said, tucking some of her soft hair behind her ear, just to have it fall forward again.
Vampire hunters. That did not sound too pleasant. "Vervaine..." She repeated. "Who is using vervaine against vampires?" She asked. "What hunters?" She'd only experienced the effect of the plant once, and it was awful. She shuddered at the memory, defiantly not wanting a repeat of that time. She'd experienced vervain, but hunters? That was something new.

Damon decided to play nice for a while. He wasn't going to kill a new vampire in town just yet. That wasn't his style. Unless there was an immediate threat to him, he liked to get a feel for his possible enemies- learn how he could use them and what their weaknesses were.
At the moment, he didn't see a reason to stake the girl yet. Lucky her.
"Oh? How would you describe yourself, then?" Damon leaned closer on his swing. He smiled, flattered that she knew his name. "You've heard of me? I didn't know I was famous." In truth, he was a little bit concerned about that, though. Being in the spotlight wasn't the best thing for a vampire, after all.
"Welcome to Mystic Falls, Kira." Despite the fact that he was lying through his teeth, he managed to put on his sincere voice and a charming smile. "Yes, hunters." He sighed. "You just have to be careful with any kills. Even animals.
"Among the founders of Mystic Falls, there were those who still believed in vampires. They formed a council that would pass down their secrets throught the generations. The local sheriff is a member. Also several other important people. I could kill them easily, but it's not worth the trouble." Stefan and Elena would have a hissy fit, after all.
He grinned. "Like I said, just be careful with how you feed and there should be no problem. Currently they think they killed us all or drove us out of town." As long as she didn't draw attention, Damon would let her stay in town.

Kira was a fairly trusting person, but she wasn't exactly too comfortable around this charming stranger. He was acting nice now, but that didn't mean that beneath the surface he had ulterior motives. She didn't know what his problem was, but she didn't believe that his ill will would simply evaporate in just the blink of an eye. Unless he was a vampire with some bi-polar disease, hah.
But for the time being, he was acting civil... so she'd wait.
"Cautious." She said, eying him, "... maybe spirited, strong-minded." She shrugged, "Like I could describe myself in one word." She tilted her head to the side ever so slightly as he leaned in closer. God, he was alluring. "What about you? What words describe you?" She asked wondering who this guy was, exactly and why he appeared so tense.
"Thank you, Damon." She said, though, she didn't quite feel all too welcomed, but let that go. "I am always careful with my kills." She said. And she was. Kira was always cautious, and never fed too often or in small, underpopulated towns. She didn't like to hunt in places that it would be incredibly noticeable.
She was fairly intrigued by the notion, but mostly she was put on edge. Vampire hunters. How very curious. "An entire town council. Wow." She shook her head. Sometimes humans were too attentive for their own good. "You seem to know quite a bit about who is on this vampire hunting crew." She noted, raising a delicate brow. "Yes, killing them all would be very flamboyant."
"I will keep that in mind." She nodded. "So, when did you come here?" She asked.

Unless she was stupid, Damon knew she wasn't buying his suddenly friendly act. But she was playing along...so Damon figured he would as well.
Cautious? Damon managed to show no trace of his mirth. He knew he could kill the younger vampire quite easily, and she had no idea how close she had come to tempting him to do so with her smart-ass reply. Obviously, despite knowing the Salvatore name, she had no idea who she was screwing with.
"Well, my father described me as a libertine. Apparently, nothing concerns me as much as my own pleasure." How right you were, father. "According to my younger brother, I can be summed up very well in one word: trouble." He chuckled. "Funny, I often say the same about him."
Actually, Stefan would probably add a few other choice words, sociopath among them, as well as liar. It didn't bother Damon, though- he liked taking the role of Satan incarnate. Marilyn Manson did such a pathetic job, after all.
Damon shrugged. "A couple months ago. I actually grew up here. I found I was feeling...nostalgic." About tormenting my brother, he added mentally.
"Now, how did you hear the Salvatore name?" he asked casually. He was willing to kill her if he deemed it necessary, though. The Salvatore brothers had no reason to be known as celebrities, even among vampires. It was true that Damon loved causing a scene, but he was also careful. Generally.
He suddenly realized there was a slight plus if she wasn't careful with her kills. He could go and kill someone just for the hell of it again and have her take the fall. Hell, maybe he would make her take the fall even if she was careful. Hey, as long as Stefan didn't catch him, who cared?

Kira was hesitant, she didn't exactly know what would come of this meeting and if Damon turned hostile, Kira wanted to be ready. She didn't want to fight him, she wasn't sure that would be smart either-- she'd have to be ready to flee, now that she could do.
Kira racked her brain, but she came up rather blank. She knew that she recollected hearing the Salvatore name, but where... where had she heard it before? She wished that she could remember.
Kira raised a dainty brow, "Is that so..." She said, it wasn't much of a question. She smiled, "I could see that... trouble." She agreed with Damon's brother. But she thought of another word to describe him, alluring. Not that she'd voice that.
"You both sound like an interesting time." She chimed in, "Mystic Falls..." She looked around, "For such a quiet, quaint town... It appears to attract the most interesting of persons." She said, curiously. It was rather intriguing how one small place seemed to be crawling with the supernatural.
"How... sentimental." She commented, hand sliding along the chain of the swing. She lifted her hand and ran her fingers through her thick, dark blond tresses.
She peeked up at him, "I must have heard it in passing..." She said, "Long ago." She was fairly certain that she'd heard it whilst talking about Mystic Falls, and if the brothers grew up here that's probably why the name had come up. It was an innocent comment, but it didn't escape Kira's notice that Damon seemed rather put off that she recognized his name.
Someone sure favored his privacy.
A new expression had flashed across Damon's face, and just as quickly as it was there, it was gone. So swift Kira wasn't sure she saw it at all. It appeared like he had a side thought, an idea. She eyed him, hiding her nerves. "What is your brother like, then? Like you?" She wondered. Maybe staying in this town wasn't worth it, not if there were vampires who seemed so unwilling to welcome new comers.

"Yes, the most interesting people," Damon echoed. He would never admit it aloud, but he did get a bit sentimental at times. Although very little of Mystic Falls looked like it once did. He could remember before the road were paved or there were telephone lines or houses with satellite dishes. Some things were familiar- Fells Church, for example, and a couple old houses that were now historical landmarks.
He stood up suddenly. He was getting tired of shooting the shit with this newcomer. He could only learn so much from talking with her. It didn't matter what people said but what they did. He should know- he was an expert at lying and deceiving others.
And while this girl didn't seem like too much of a threat, she could be trying to play him. Damon didn't trust anyone easily. Stefan called him paranoid; he called himself cautious.
He did have to admit, though, that she was cute. Maybe if she didn't turn out to be a threat...
Assuming she's not as much of a bother as the last blonde I slept with, Damon thought with disgust. Caroline had so many issues. She was whiny and insecure and he had to compell her just to shut her up for one minute.
But if she wasn't like that at all...Damon strolled around, deciding to hang around a little more and flirt with her. "The town actually has somewhat of a history with the supernatural," he said. "No one knows exactly why, though."
"Where did you come from, Kira?" he asked, slowly moving toward her again. He figured it was a fairly harmless question, one she wouldn't mind answering. "I told you you I was a native to town...so what about you?"

The air was warm, and the night clear. It was a while since Kira had come across another vampire, and, even though in the beginning, she didn't appreciate Damon's propinquity, but after a few moments of calm talking, she relaxed. A little.
She watched him when he stood, wondering just how mendacious he was. She liked to imagine that perhaps she'd made a friend here tonight. Though, the word friend, seemed far too involved. Maybe just an acquaintance, if that. She knew there was more to him then he was showing. Kira felt like she needed to find more information about Damon, and, where better than the town he was from.
She could feel that he didn't trust her too much, and, to be frank, she didn't trust him entirely too. Kir smiled at Damon, her pink lips parting delightfully. Kira was not talking much. Mostly she was just watching Damon, her blue eyes sparkling despite the dim light of the night sky. "A supernatural history? That is fascinating... I'm glad I finally visited this..." She looked at Damon, "charming little town " She said, then tilted her head up to peer at the stars
She put her hands in her lap and looked down at them for a fleeting second and then back to Damon, "I was born in South Carolina." She said, "And that's where I was turned." Kira shrugged, "I haven't stayed in one place since then.... though I do rather love spending time in Italy." She said, then as a distant thought she added, "E 'il mio posto preferito per visitare, mi piace lì." Italian flowing off her tongue rather mellifluously.

(OOC: Oh snap, someone's breaking out the SAT words...)
"South Carolina, eh?" He sat back down on the swing, looking at her. He nodded when she talked about she had never really stayed in one place since she had been turned. "Trust me, it only get worse the older you get," he said dryly. "You find you have to move around every couple of years to avoid suspicion about how you never age. And getting a new fake ID and social security number is a real bitch, lemme tell you that." She didn't seem to have been a vampire long, so she probably had some time left before she would become an expert at manipulating all the paperwork requirements that eternal life actually required.
He smiled at her, and his smile widened as she broke into Italian. "Ah, Italian. I confess that while Italy is the origin of the Salvatore name, my brother and I are not fluent in the language. We were born and raised in the United States, as was our father. The closest I ever came was studying Latin for a bit in school, but it held no interest for me." Indeed, his mind had been occupied by other, less academic interests...part of the reason he had never been the favored son.
Of course, it was Stefan who killed the old bastard. Even if I didn't get the privilege, I can at least appreciate the irony.

[ooc: hah! you know it! xD]
Kira had expected that. For someone so used to being surrounded by friends, well, this was a completely different change, and she wasn't sure she could handle it. But, that was much further down the road. She figured, with time, she'd harden and be able to handle the near constant solitude that came with being a vampire.
Kira shrugged, playing it cool, "It's my excuse to visit as many places as possible I supposed." She said. "I rather do love to travel." She smiled. Her next stop was going to be England, she'd decided a little while ago.
She peeked up at him, her light eyes shining. "Sounds like you've been at this for a while." She noted the obvious. It also sounded like he was good at what he did. Perhaps he'd be able to help her? Give her a few pointers? She wasn't going to ask, not yet, but maybe later on if things went smoothly.
"That's too bad." She said, "Italian is a beautiful language." She added. Kira always had a thing for boys with accents. It was a weakness, or something like that. Kira didn't peg Damon for the studious type, but, maybe appearances were deceiving. She'd certainly leaned that once.
"So, what is there to do in Mystic Falls?" She wondered aloud.

"Well, immortality gives you plenty of time to travel. You just need to remember to plan ahead for international travel. The whole sunlight thing is a real bummer, right?" Damon said with a sympathetic smile that seemed to say 'yeah, I've been there.' He had never really had that problem, of course, thanks to the nifty rings that Emily Bennett had crafted. When he traveled internationally, he traveled first class with the window open so he could catch whatever sunlight he could. Which wasn't always that much, depending on how much time the plane spent in the clouds.
Ahhh, yes, eternal youth via vampirism combined with the opportunity to catch a nice tan. Damon did love to have his cake and eat it, too.
Of course, Damon had no intention of telling Kira about his ring. Hell, even nice trusting Stefan wouldn't trust another vampire with the secret of their rings, no matter how friendly she seemed. It was bad enough that Katherine and possibly some of her friends had the rings, after all. At least the secret of how to make the rings had probably died with Emily Bennett.
Damon nodded in answer to her statement about him having experience with this whole vampire thing. "Over a century and a half of experience," he confirmed. "You?" He supposed there was no harm in telling her that information.
He pretended to think for a moment. "Well, there is the Mystic Falls Grill. Best food in town." He gave a smirk as he said the last part, certain that as a fellow vampire she would catch the double meaning behind his use of the word 'food.' "It is a small town, but there is a mall and some historic sites. There's also plenty of woods that are good for hunting."

Kira figured as much. With time came possibilities, and Kira liked the idea of possibilities. Kira looked up, nodding. "Yeah... the sunlight thing." She shook her head, looking down. Kira actually didn't have too much of a problem with staying out of the sun. Not because she didn't like the sun, or she avoided it, but because of the pendant she wore around her neck.
Kira didn't know why, or how, but it allowed her to go out into the sunlight without... well, without the whole burning and dying thing. The necklace was a secret she kept because she had no idea how it worked, and if she couldn't explain it to other vampires then they might try to steal it from her. It was a pretty thing, and Kira had only come across it by chance. She bought it for five bucks at a yard sale, and now it was her life. She didn't where it came from before that, or where those people had gotten it from, but it looked old, very old with faded silver and a thin chain that Kira was scared to replace.
She realized that, from the way Damon spoke, he probably knew a thing or two. If she came to trust him, which she wasn't sure about yet, maybe he could explain the mystery of her necklace to her. "Not nearly that long." She replied, leaning back. Over a century and a half. Wow.
Kira chuckled softly, "Best food, huh..." She smirked along with him. It was a quaint little place. "So, Damon, let me re-phrase my question a little... what do you like to do for fun?" She asked, quirking a brow, and leaning a little closer.
